What I saw
Twenty years on the inside. Innovation programmes worth hundreds of millions. The rooms where utilities decide what gets deployed.
An alternative transformer technology - safer and less prone to fire - was not being specified. The utility assumed the regulator wouldn’t fund it. The regulator was waiting for a business case. I built it. Funding approved. The technology was deployed across the network and is now global.

In investment committees, technologies were rejected not because they did not work, but because no one had done the internal work to demonstrate how deployment would function. The startup would fold. The problem remained. Unsolved.
